Science & Technology of Photovoltaics is a comprehensive book covering the present status of Solar Photovoltaic Technologies in use throughout the world. Photovoltaics (PV), a source of clean energy, have been increasingly utilised in power generation in recent years in urban and remote areas. The book covers the subject from the Science of Solar Cells to the different types of solar cell technologies – silicon, CDTe and CIS, and discusses the different types of solar PV systems – stand alone, hybrid, grid-connected – their relative merits and commercial status. It deals with Technological aspects like Storage Batteries, Power Conditioning Equipment, designing, building and installation of solar PV Systems. Lastly, this book covers the economics and current market status of PV. The solar insolation data, month-wise for over 50 different cities in India is appended at the end of the book to help in designing a PV system at any location in India. This book is designed to cater to the needs of a student of science/engineering pursuing a course in solar photovoltaics. Besides, the professionals working in the production design, installation and maintenances areas of PV industry will find the book useful and handy.
