The present catalogues is of selected pieces of Sculptures and terracotta collections housed at present in the Archaeological Museum of A.M.U., Aligarh. This is intended to bring out to the notice of the art scholars in particular and public, in general, the art pieces which represent the art of ancient India. The author is simply amazed to look at the rich collection of terracotta and sculptures which point out craftsmanship of artists who have made them with enthusiasm, care and skill. The catalogue includes pieces of art from pre-Harappan period to the early medieval period. The founder of the University, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was very much interested in the ancient art of India some of which he preserved very carefully. This makes significant part of the collection of the Museum described separately in this catalogue. Others from the collection made by Professor R.C. Gaur from 1958 onward.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR R C Gaur

Prof. R.C. Gaur is a retired Professor of Archaeology and Ancient Indian History of the A.M.U. He has contributed immensely in the field of Archaeology and published a large number of papers in various national and international journals. He had been a member of several academic bodies and travelled extensively, visiting archaeological sites and delivering lectures in great Britain, Europe, Egypt, Middle Eastern countries, the former Soviet Union and the U.S.A.
