Service Sector in Indian Economy’ highlights the growing importance and significant role assigned to social aspects of development in economic planning in the Indian context, and in developing countries in general. The UNDP’s human development report 2004, South Asia HDR 2004, and India-National HDR 2001 speak volumes of the present position, high or low, of various countries, component-wise, and for all components together. Taking the thread from these volumes, scholars have developed review articles on specific themes, broadly grouped as social aspects of development, and included in this publication.
