Guilford introduced the new concept of creativity that has gained wide popularity in the field of psychology. It says that creativity is identical with divergent thinking. It is Guilford’s basic postulation which says that creativity is independent of intelligence. It gave a new direction to researches in the area. The major trend in research was to explain creative behaviour in terms of non-cognitive correlates of creativity as much of the work is centred round personality. Social, familial and cultural variables have not been studies in any depth. The present study is intended to identify a set of social-familial and personality correlates of creativity. The results of the study would help to: a. develop more adequate theories of creativity; b. devise educational/clinical strategies for predicting and fostering creative behaviour, and c. understand the interactive effects of social, familial and personality variables on creativity.
