India has had a glorius history in voluntary social action, but the role of NGOs in this field is still, under probe. YMCA is one of the leading voluntary organizations having its branches across the world. Though the history of functioning of its branches in India dates back to 1890, its branch in Bihar became functional only in 1989. Since then YMCA Patna has come forward with various voluntary efforts towards achieving its objectives of social welfare. However, its working at the micro-level had not been studied earlier. This book gives an in-depth account of the impact of the functioning of YMCA Patna in the field of social sectors. It examines three major activities of the Patna YMCA, namely, the HIV/AIDS prevention Projects, Reproductive and child Health (RCH) Program and Literacy Center. The author, being a life member of the YMCA Patna, his analysis is based on the insights gained through participation in its various activities and a formal study. The book is a study and an analysis on the functioning of an NGO and its projects. The findings of the book bring out the current social development issues in which NGOs need to play an important role.
