This volume is an outcome of research work done in Valod (South Gujarat to find out the changes in the socia-economic status of tribal women.
Socio-economic, Political, educational and health status of women is extremely low in developing countries and in India. Women face the problem of discrimination in many areas of life. Adivasi women face the problem of discrimination as women and as adivasis.
Valod is a taluka consisting of 40 villages in Surat (now in Tapi) where more than 70 per cent of the population is tribal. The village has historical importance as the people in Volod are followers of the of Gandhian principles. In the same taluka the NGO Vedchhi Pradesh Seva Samiti is working for the upliftment of tribal community since 1954.
A survey of 498 women was conducted to find out how the inclusive policy of the Vedchhi Pradesh Seva Samiti had brought about positive changes in the status of tribal women.
Tribal women, who were basically involved in agricultural activities, are today involved in Dairy Production, SHG activities, Papad Udyog etc. Their socia-economic status has been improved only because of theinclusive policy of Gandhian institutions in Valod.
