In the post-war period the economic condition of Indians were far from satisfactory. One of the issues which created economic restlessness and alienated the Indian people was the agrarian policy of the British Government. Encouragement of producing such raw materials as jute, cotton, oil seeds and foodgrains was done with the object of encouraging their export to the British market. Similarly, the future of India depended on industrialization but to the British people especially the ruling agencies, industrialization appeared a "false beacon as a means of regeneration." Industrialisation was seriously obstructed by the interest of British traders, manufacturers and financers. Gandhiji said, "Give me Khadi I will give you Swaraj.."This was a slogan to supplement the income of the Indians. Several socio-religious reform movement like Brahmo Samaj, were organised to improve the lot of poor masses. The book discusses socio-economic nationalism in a convincingly comprehensive style. It will be very useful for students of modern history. The text is very simple and lucid. Even layman will find the book very interesting. However, it will form a precious collection of each library.
