This book was originally intended as a text for students, and its primary purpose has not changed; it has, however, been increasingly used by practising farmers and, in order that it may serve their needs also, the authors have been at pains to avoid the use, without explanation, of such scientific terms as have not yet become part of our farming vocabulary. A great part of the book has been rewritten and much new material has been added.
