This textbook "Soil Chemistry" is the outcome of twenty four years of author’s teaching, research and extension experience in soil science. The book "Soil Chemistry" comprises of eight chapters and an equal emphasis for discussion on various aspects is being given for all chapters. The book has been written and designed as per syllabi of the undergraduate studies of soil science of different Agricultural Universities of India and also of interest who are engaged in the studies of soil science. Each chapter of this book is arranged sequentially and rthythmically so that one can understand the subject matter easily. Chapter 5th and 8th are the new one and deals with Chemistry of Submerged Soil, Soil & Water pollution respectively which would certainly be helpful for the students of agriculture. It is hoped that this textbook will meet the growing need of soil science curriculum of different Indian Agricultural Universities. Any suggestions for improvement will be highly appreciated.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shivanand Tolanur

Dr. Shivanand Tolanur has completed his B.Sc. (Agri.), M.Sc. (Soil Sc.) and Ph.D. in Soil Science from University of Agricultural Science Dharwad (Karnataka). He has worked as a Team Leader in various research schemes and demonstrated number of research results of the farmer community, simultaneously he has developed the INM (Integrated Nutrient Management) Technologies in research field. He has made a significant contribution by preparing six Laboratory Manuals besides three text books, viz., (a) Practical Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry (b) Soil Chemistry (c) Soil Fertility, Fertilizer & INM for undergraduate/postgraduate students. During a span of twenty three years of teaching, research and extension, he had worked in the capacity of Research Assistant/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor and presently discharging his duties as Prof. & Head, Deptt. of Soil Science & Agriculture Chemistry in Agriculture College, Bajapur, Karnataka.
