This book is all about the concept of spatial efficiency. As such, it develops a Geographical Thought and a principal that underlies many of the human activities and human spatial behaviour. It is essential to throw light on both the theoretical and applied aspects of spatial efficiency which has been done at the outset in general and throughout the book in different chapters in particular. An operational model of spatial efficiency, the first of its kind, has been built and used in practical problems of geography. Geography is a spatial science and it needs spatial themes and models to deal with its problems. Spatial efficiency is one of the meaningful concepts and useful models in geography which is able to explain human spatial behaviour. It is not only an explanatory but also a normative model useful in simulations. A few geographical topics such as location of the central places, route networks, industry, boundaries, the urban and agricultural land use etc. have been taken up for discussion of spatial efficiency as a controlling principle therein and also of applicability of its operational model. The most recent has also been reviewed with spatial efficiency point of view.
