The present work studies venture capital as a catalyst in the growth of the Indian economy. It is based on an empirical survey of existing literature and experiences of venture capital investors. It seeks to analyse the recent phenomenon of Indian venture capital as an organised industry in relation to the pace and extent of growth of Indian economy in the post-independence era. It examines Indian venture capital industry in the global context of developed and developing countries, namely USA, UK, Japan, China, Israel, Korea and a few other countries in Europe and Asia also. The study focuses on analysing various pre-investment strategies, post investment activities, post investment monitoring of investee company, investor-investee relationships and finally, recommends alternative strategies to venture capitalists for effective management of venture capital funds in India. The study suggests ways to develop venture capital market in India.
