Maurice Dobb, who died in 1976, was a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, and Reader Emeritus in Economics at the University of Cambridge. He was also a Fellow of the British Academy. In these studies, he examines what have been the leading factors in economic development in the epoch of modern capitalism. ‘Individually and taken together Mr. Dobb’s studies are a most valuable contribution to economic literature, and to the understanding of the problems of our time.’-New Statesman
