As a young man he understood the implications of a colonial rule and since then he made up his mind to launch an Anti-Raj Satyagraha in order to win Swaraj. He did not like to be a civil servant to serve under the Raj. He therefore submitted his resignation and after meeting Mahatma Gandhi and C.R. Das, he chose the latter as his mentor. Soon he got himself deeply involved in the politics of Bengal and chose a different political path soon after the Lahore Congress in 1929.
