Surdas (b 1478 AD) is regarded as sun in the domain of Hindi poetry. A staunch devotee of Lord Krishna, a great saint, poet singer belonging to Bhakti cult (Pushtimarga), he is known for his great works viz. Sursagar, Sahitya Lahari, Sur Saravali, and Bhramar Geet. Apart from songs of entreaty, childhood, love and separation, Surdas has written songs of ceremonies, celebrations, and of seasons. Even if one ignores the religious aspect of Surdas, the fact remains that he hold a very high place in medieval Hindi poetry based just on the literary merits of his lyrics. He had a great insight into the psychology of a child. This book is the culmination of fine synthesis of Sur literature, his personality, vision and message besides critical appraisal.
