The end of the Cold War ushered in a new international security environment that can no longer be explained by the dominant security paradigms utilized by governments and analysts since World War II. Inter-state conflicts have been replaced by rising occurrences of intra-state violence; the state as the central focus of international affairs has given way to a host of non-state actors; and, it has become increasingly evident that the greatest threat to security emanates from the rapidly evolving phenomena of terrorism and transnational organized crime. Global terrorism and organized crime are now inextricably linked. Factors such as economic globalisation, transparency of borders and the explosion of information technology have all played a part in this process. The boundary between terrorist activity and criminal activity has become increasingly blurred. Throughout the world, to fuel the phenomenal increase in the scale and nature of the threat they pose, the terrorists are increasingly reliant on the proceeds of organized crime. This book provides a comprehensive analysis of all the issues related with terrorism and organized crimes. It will be of interest to policymakers, scholars, and other individuals with professional responsibilities in the area of terrorism and security studies.
