The book has been conceived to provide plausible answers to the unorthodox problems faced by the mining geologists in the field. The problems are varied and pertain to identification of minerals, structural, stratigraphic control and geological deposit on one hand and its exploration, exploitation, utilization on the other hand. The text is developed on locating and development of the mineral deposit and its mining in a logical sequence. The chapter on ‘mineral, rock and deposit’ is specially designed to provide brief but relevant information at one place on mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy and geographic distribution of the mineral deposits in the country. Pragmatic treatment is given to the chapter on ‘surveying and geological mapping’ which is followed by exploration, drilling and sampling. Mining and status of mining industry and preparation of mining plan for ensuring systematic development of the deposit have been particularly discussed in the Indian context. The book provide a passing reference to applications of modern techniques like geo-statistics, remote sensing and computerisation that should encompass the whole gamut of mining geology.
