North Eastern India is a unique land fondly called the land of seven sisters representing seven unique states known for creativity, artistic genre and culture. Textile in this land is unique in the sense that all types of textiles technology from primitive to modern co-exist equally creating wonderful spectra of designs. What is most exclusive being every woman barring a few are the expert weavers and caste barrier or tribe barrier never comes on the way. It is in this land that all four varieties of silk is produced besides vegetable fibres like cotton, rhamie, nettle and so on, in addition to a limited extent wool also. The book also unique in its own way which deals with textiles of seven States in seven separate chapters covering technology, designs, materials and so on. It is all the more unique since it comes from authors who made detailed study on this region.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR G K Ghosh
He is graduated in Chemical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Rourkella. After graduation served number of organizations like Hindustan Lever Ltd., I.B.P Co. Ltd., Konark Detergents and Soaps Ltd., and finally joined Khadi & Village Industries Commission as director in the year 1982 retiring as Joint Chief Executive Officer in the year 2008. after retirement he was made member and chairman respectively of two important committees of Ministry of Science & Technology. He is also working with two rural based groups to develop environment friendly rural industrialization. He has presented more than 40 papers in Anthropology in various sessions of Indian Science Congress. More than 80 articles in various subjects written in English, Hindi, Bengali and Oriya were published in various journals and news papers of repute. He had authored more than 50 books out of which 48 were published. The subjects ranged from disaster Management, Anthropology, Environmental Issues, Renewable Energy, Ayurveda etc. he is well traveled all Indian States and most of the European countries. He was trained in Industtrial Cluster from International labor Organisation Training center at Turin, Italy.
