With the Apu Trilogy [Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansar] in the 1950s, Satyajit Ray caught the attention of cinema connoisseurs all over the world. The trilogy, which is the story of Apu, is also the story of growing up in India. It traces Apu’s growth from a childhood harsh with poverty but brightened by a passion for creativity and learning, into a battered maturity. This volume, containing a foreword and working sketches by Ray, who also checked and edited the text, which is based on a shot-by-shot viewing of the films, brings you the first authorized publication of these scripts in their entirety.
