Fifteenth and the last volume in the series of The Collected Works of Sardar Patel deals with the year 1950 as Sardar Patel died on 15 December 1950. During the last few years of his life Sardar was striving hard to make the country strong internally and externally. He wanted to build up a strong and healthy India where there should be no wants, no shortage and no exploitation. For external security, Sardar Patel was in favour of maintaining a big and fully mechanised army. He exhorted young men and women to build up their character. He was against all strikes as it would not be in the interest of the country. He felt that the controls became necessary when there was scarcity of essential commodities. He wanted the education system should be reorientated so that young men were taught to do things with their own hands both in the agricultural and industrial sphere. He was against nationalisation as the conditions were not favourable for such a step. He was not against capitalists as he thought they could also serve the country. Sardar Patel was of the view that the Congress might continue without any opposition party by at least another 10 or 15 years as the democracy was yet to take firm roots. He exhorted Hindus and Muslims to forget the past and live like brothers. He made it clear to Muslims that they should not have any apprehensions whatsoever. He was full of praise for Christians whose leaders never asked for reservation. He criticised the Hindus for untouchability and considered it as a "blot on Hindu religion". It had led some of them to embrace other religions. However at the same time he praised Hindu society for keeping its door wide open and giving shelter to followers of religions like Jews and Parsees.
