The aim of this book is to bring out the nature of the Concept of Apavarga in Samkhya philosophy. A modest attempt is made here to discuss and evaluate the concept in question with special stress on its metaphysical validity and scope in a world of changing values. This book consist of nine Chapters, Introduction, the means of knowledge, the concept of Prakrti, the idea of spirit, Parinamavada, bondage, the way to Apavarga, the concept of Apavarga and evaluation. A historical study of the system has been made to reveal the exact nature of Prakrti, the three Gunas and the concept of the self. The concept of the three Gunas Parinama and Satkaryavada are subjected to careful scrutiny and appraisal by viewing them in the context of the modern scientific theories of Evolution, Relativity and Quanta. A comparative study between the concept of self in the Western philosophy from Plato to Russel has also been made to clarify the concept of Purusa in Samkhya system. The metaphysical problems of system have been reviewed and evaluated. A critical review of the ideas of salvation in various Indian systems has also been made. Special attention is given to a comparative study between the concept of Moksa in Advaita Vedanta and that in Samkhya Philosophy.
