The two volumes contain writings by economists, policymakers, and experts in different areas who throw light on reasons attributed to the growth slowdown of the Indian economy and present a roadmap for accelerating economic growth and ensuring sustainable and regionally more inclusive growth. Containing the speeches/addresses of noted personalities including the prime minster of India, Manmohan Singh and P. Chidambaram, Union finance minister, Government of India, at various fora, they throw light on macroeconomic challenges and sectoral issues—pertaining to agriculture including agricultural trade policy, food and nutritional security and industry. They view the RBI’s financial sector policies, Indian banking in the post-reform period, governance in banks and financial institutions and financial inclusion—its philosophy, past experience and financial inclusion of the poor in urban areas. They deal with the global financial crisis with respect to the response of the Indian financial sector.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Uma Kapila
Uma Kapila is Reader in the Department of Economics, Miranda House, University of Delhi. She has been teaching the subject of Indian Economy to undergraduate students for over forty years now. An Honours Graduate from Miranda House, University of Delhi and M.A. and Ph.D. from Delhi School of Economics, Dr. Uma Kapila has also served on the Planning Commission Study Group on "Agricultural Strategies in the Eastern Region of India for the Seventh Five Year Plan" (Perspective Planning Division). Dr. (Mrs.) Uma Kapila is the author of the book entitled Oilseeds Economy of India (1982) published by the Institute of Economic Growth. She is also the author of two textbooks on Indian Economy, one meant for B.Com. (Hons.), and the other for B.A. (Pass) / B. Com. (Pass) / Eco. (Subsidiary).
