The English-Kannada Pocket Dictionary

The present work is based primarily on the late Mr. Christanuja Watsa’s pioneer efforts of more than twenty years ago. In the task of revision the reviser has been indebted to the Concise Oxford Dictionary (1929). The Concise Oxford Dictionary represents a masterpiece in lexicography, a model of excellence for the practitioner in the art. The orthography is that followed by the Oxford Dictionary. Many words and phrases current in English have been added in this revised edition, and many idiomatic expressions in English have been rendered into Kannada as accurately as it was possible, without injury to the genius of either language. Words technical in character have received similar treatment. Words or expressions foreign to English but in common use have been collected in a separate section. The reviser is conscious of his own limitations and requests the indulgent reader to be good enough to communicate to the publishers criticisms or suggestions for incorporation in a future edition.
