Islam is viewed by most people in the habit as monolith, even though a single opinion may no more be ascribed to its adherents than to those of Judaism or Christianity. But in the wake of September 11, Islam has been identified more that ever, in the Western mind, with violence, intolerance and fanatism. With this book the author has tried to present a fresh view of Islam, challenging the hegemony of Saudi-backed extremism in the Muslim world but equally rejecting the simplistic, “crusader†polemics widely seen in Western intellectual life today. Mainstream Islam resorted to the past power, traditional and pluralistic, will generate new, fruitful contributions to humanity. It will draw on the hidden history the West could learned long ago, but to which it has been blinded by prejudice myth and fear. The entire information is gathered under nine chapters, namely-Snow in the Desert; Fortresses and Mountain Paths; Haters of Song; Global Gamblers; The Coming of the Imam; Permanent ‘Jihad; Sword of Dishonour; Religious Colonialism; Whither Saudi Arabia? Etc.
