ABOUT THE AUTHOR Paul Bergner
Paul Bergner has studied and practiced natural medicine since 1973, with formal studies in nature cure, medical herbalism, clinical nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, flower essences, yoga therapy, and bodywork, including undergraduate studies in pre-medicine, psychology, and journalism, and graduate medical studies at National College of Naturopathic Medicine. He teaches pathophysiology, clinical herbalism, and clinical nutrition and directs the student clinic at the Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies in Boulder, Colorado, where he also has a private practice. He has six books on natural medicine in print: Twelve Powerful Herbs; The Healing Power of Ginseng and the Tonic Herbs, The Healing Power of Echinacea, Goldenseal, and the Immune System Herbs and The Healing Power of Minerals and Trace Elements, and The Country Doctor's Book of Folk Remedies and Healing Wisdom, besides The Healing Power of Garlic. He was the founding editor of The Naturopathic Physician, the member magazine of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and formerly edited Dr. Steve Austin's Clinical Nutrition Update. He has more than 120 articles on medical herbalism and alternative medicine in print in various periodicals and journals. Bergner was the founding director of AMR'TA (the Alchemical Medicine Research and Teaching Association). He is a professional member of the National Association of Science Writers. Bergner founded Medical Herbalism in 1989. He lectures frequently at national and international herbal and naturopathic medical conferences.
