The present work is a learned biographical account concerning the actions and character of a soldier having won great victories and a statesman having and legislation Lord Clive. The history of the siege of Trichnopoly has been recorded. The subsequent chapters deal with Clive’s glorious campaign, marriage and return to England, Fall of Dupliez, The Gheria expedition. The Bengal Expedition and foundation of the British Rule in Bengal. The circumstances that led to the dethronement of Surajah Dowla have been reviewed. The fictious victory is revealed. Volume II deals with a historical sketch of Clive’s life from 1757 to 1774. After the battle of Plassey, a correspondence between Clive and Eyra Coote throws light on the characters of Clive and Coote. The narrative of the disastrous campaign of Lally is illustrated of the Cliv’e residence in England is illustrated by letters of Eyre Coote give a vivid description of the final contest between France and England in India.
