This book is an outgrowth and expansion of the earlier editions which appeared as Bulletins published by the College of Education of the University of Illinois, U.S.A. The tremendous growth of the subject itself, coupled with the increase in scope and importance of the work lead to this expanded edition. While the earlier editions, though very successful, were chiefly concerned with French and German. This scheme was replaced with the more conventional and easier-to-use alphabetical arrangement of the material by topics or rubrics, with frequent cross-references and sub-division under each topic of the purpose of finding information quicker. The book is a must companion for the teachers and student in the field of language studies.
