The volume is on the work of the Moravian missionaries in the Himalayan region. It discusses their evangelisation work and non-evangelical work among the indigenous cultures of northern India. They deal with important elements of Moravian writing, especially missionary writing, and Moravian publications and translations including those of the Bible and other Christian publications as well as secular writings including journalistic and scholarly works. Based on archival research as well as field work, they present biographies of Moravian missionaries and their local assistants. They examine the history of individual mission stations, the cultural influences that resulted from the missionaries’ activities and the impact of these on the Himalayan cultures, and their contribution to increasing awareness and information about the Himalayan region in Europe. The volume has photographs that showcase buildings of the Moravian mission in Kinnaur.
