The North-central Sub-region of India has a high concentration of tribal people, and covers the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, north-western part of Bengal and north Orissa. This publication mainly draws upon a national Seminar on ‘Tribal issues in North-Central Sub-region’, organised by the Council for Social development, New Delhi. Besides an introduction by the editor, which places the tribal development issues in a historical and contemporary context, the volume includes over a dozen of scholarly and analytical studies which address the various conceptual-theoretical and substantive issues related to the livelihood, education, health, environment, and displacement & rehabilitation of tribal people in the region. The book also covers a discussion on the draft national tribal policy.
