The Other Side of Terror: An Anthology of Writings on Terrorism in South Asia

The volume is a literary response to understanding terrorism. It brings together writings on terrorism from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka that delve into the socio-political conditions that throw light on the phenomenon. The original writings in English as well as translations include short stories, essays, poems and excerpts from novels that address issues and perspectives relating to the militant wing of the Indian freedom movement, effects of militancy in Kashmir, insurgency in Assam, the Naxalite movement in Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and other Indian states, the Maoist insurgency in Nepal and Tamil militancy in Sri Lanka. They present the views of authors including Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore, Surat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Aurobindo Ghose, Khushwant Singh, Pankaj Mishra, Mahesweta Devi and Tenzin Tsundue in order to explore the psychological and sociological effects of terrorism and moral and ethical issues concerned with terrorism and counter terrorism.
