This book is a collection of stories, that describe the paths that people chose to heal their lives, bodies, and relationships. It also describes the accidents on a social, Physical, and emotional level that people experience and which cause the need for healing. The stories were experienced and collected at a Muslim Pilgrimage center of a Sufi (Suhrawardi) order in Gujarat. The field trips during which this material was coll3ected took place between 1979 and 1982. Financial support came from the German research Association and the university of Hamburg. For the German version of this book the author was a awarded the Rabindranath Tagore Price of the German-Indo Society in 1996.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Beatrix Pfeiderer

Beatrix Pfeiderer, Ph.D. was tenured professor of anthropology at the University of Hamburg, Germany from 1982 to 1992. Her field work includes studies on the Hindi Film in Mumbai which resulted in the book “The Hindi Film: Agent and re-agent of Cultural Change”. She also studied the economy of migrant labour in North Africa as well as the anthropology of disease and healing in cross-cultural comparison on which she wrote several books. In the 90ies she trained with leafing transpersonal psychologists in California. She leads workshops internationally and works in private practice in Germany and hawai’i.
