This compendium of ten essays, presented at an international conference held at Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, attempts to address a variety of issues concerning politics and good governance in Asia. Explaining how to define ‘good democracy’ in the Asian context, it describes in detail how to apply this concept to evaluate democracies in the real world.
It also explores the characteristic patterns of Asian democracies like Korea, India, Japan, Hong Kong and China, which not only demonstrate varieties of diverse social, historical and cultural circumstances within the area, but also share regional peculiarities different from the Western society.
