ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sobdo Chakrabarti

Sobdo Chakrabarti (b. 1974) teaches English Literature. Mr. Chakrabarti is a prolific writer on literary, socio-cultural issues and current affairs. His critical and creative efforts are honoured by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), which has awarded him the second prize in the Moulana Azad Essay Competition, 1996, for his essay â€œGlobalisation: Economic, Social and Political Challenges for South Asiaâ€. Mr. Chkrabarti has been participating in various seminars, symposia and workshops which include the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR). His contribution is well acknowledged through the Young Scholarsâ€™ Seminar-cum-Essay Competition and was awarded the third prize in 1998 by the ICPR. Mr. Chakrabarti has recently submitted a project to Visva-Bharati University on translating into English Rabindranath Tagoreâ€™s poems for children. He is currently translating into Bengali Tagore: A Life, a biography of Rabindranath Tagore by Krishna Kripalini and pursuing research work on the Western influence on Tagoreâ€™s dramaturgy.
