By exploring the basic ideas of Self in the Upanisads and the Bhagavad Gita the author shows how the later developments in the Darsanas stem from the basic differences within these works of Early Vedanta. The main Acaryas, Sankhya-Yoga, and some schools of Buddhism are shown to come each from one part of the Upanisads.
