This compendium of 26 papers, presented at a national seminar, jointly organized by Arya Vidyapeeth College and Assam Science Society, Guwahat, attempts to address the pertinent issues concerning rapidly growing population, environmental degradation and development in India, with special reference to the North East region.
Discussing the latest approaches and techniques of assessing environment, it analyzes the impact of water-logging on physiological and biochemical attributes of tea. It also deals with fluoride in groundwater, larval morphology of amphibian species, wind energy, potential of bio-fuel production, chronic diseases, rainwater harvesting, development and management of groundwater resources, plant biomass energy, impact of urban expansion on land use pattern, and environmental education. The role of Self Help Groups in the mass awareness about environmental problems has been examined as well.
