This is a study and documentation of the kusti weaving practised and carried out by the Zoroastrian community. It is a part of the UNESCO Parzor Project. It emphasises not only the weaving process involved and the looms and tools used during weaving, its evolution and developments in it with time but also its significance in the Zoroastrian faith and its role in the cultural context of the community. It explains how the craft is practised at the major centres of Zoroastrian settlements in India—in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The work involves study of Avestan textual sources. It gives an account of the significance of the garments in the ceremonies and life cycle rituals of the Zoroastrian community in India.
