Furthermore, it gives information on plant taste, potency, action, and use-directly translated from ancient medical texts such as the rGyud-bZhi and the Shel-gong Shel-preng-providing thereby, an invaluable insight into a selection of medicinal herbs that have played such a vital role in the healthcare of Tibetans for so many centuries.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Tsewang J. Tsarong
Mr. Tsewant Jigme Tsarong, who has taken over a decade to document these plants, was borm in Lhasa, Tibet. After receiving his formal education at St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling, India and graduating from Valparaiso University, Indiana, U.S.A., he served as Executive Director (1975-1982) and Director of Research and Development (1990-1993) of the Tibetan Astro, and Medical Institute, Dharmsala, India. An avid golfer and author of Fundamentals of Tibetan Medicine and Handbook of Traditional Tibetan Drugs, Mr. Tsarong presently devotes his time and energy towards the propagation, preservation, and development of Tibetan medicine.
