The success of any development oriented programmes including educational programmes depends on the voluntary participation of the target for whose benefit these programmes are formulated. The success of the adult literacy programmes conceived for promoting literacy also depends on the participation of the illiterates in the programme. The past efforts in this area have revealed that this programmes could not attained their objectives due to heavy dropout rate among the participants. As a result the money materials and human resources invested on this programme has gone as a waste. Keeping of these in view, an attempt was made to investigate into the courses for the adult dropouts from the literacy programmes. The findings of the study helps the programme administrators and field functionaries to understand the anticipated problems of the participants and developing the competencies among the functionaries to overcome the dropout problems. The present book is a boon for the social science researchers, trainers of adult education functionaries of state resource centres, Zilla Saksharatha Samithi and the administrators of adult education, to carryout their work in improving the quality of adult education programmes.
