ABOUT THE AUTHOR Larry G. Peters
Dr. Larry G. Peters is a world renowned scholar and initiated shaman in the Tibetan tradition. He was the recipient of the Regent's Fellowship at the University of California and a post-doctoral fellow of the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Peters holds advance degrees in both Anthropology and Psychology. He has authored several books, including Tamang Shamans: An Ethnopsychiatcric Study of Esctasy and Healing in Nepal, 1999 and Trance Initiation and Psychotherapy in Nepalese Shamanism: Essays on Tamang and Tibetan Shamanism, 2004. He has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Nepal, China, Mongolia, and Siberia and is a research associate of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. Dr. Peters has published extensively on shamanism and has conducted numerous experiential shamanic workshops in the United States, Europe and Asia. Dr. Peters is a professor of Anthropology and Psychology at The California Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology and Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles, where he serves as Co-Director of both the Programs in Cross-Cultural Psychology and in Marriage Family and Child Counseling. Dr. Peters also teaches at Pacifica University in Santa Barbara. He is a Board Member of the Association of Transpersonal Psychology and a licensed psychotherapist in the State of California. For some of the clients in his private practice, Dr. Peters employs shamanic counseling methods to promote psycho-spiritual integration.
