This book is a historic record of the battle actions in Ladakh and Kargil from 1947 upto 1993 (when the author was posted at headquarters of the 3 infantry division).A lot has been written about the culture and the people of this region, but the battle actions have only been published as part of regimental histories or biographies of those who fought in these sectors. However, this book covers the history of warfare in Ladakh and Kargil. Initially conceived only as a history of 3 infantry division, 1947-48 operations acted as a good backdrop and hence were included. Since, so little is known of the brave actions of our jawans and officers who defended these remote areas, it was necessary to highlight some battles, particularly the 1962 Indo-China war. This book recounts the tales of bold and bloody battles fought in difficult conditions, of valour and courage seldom equaled and hardly ever surpassed, of stealthy skirmishes in pitch darkness over grim gorges and winding trails, of bullets finding their mark at incredible ranges, and always of a valiant jawan. Besides making interesting reading, "Trishul" highlights important lessons of leadership, be they political or military. This book will make interesting reading for Officers of Indian Army, people of Ladakh, and general reader.
