The book is concerned with psychological assessment in educational institutions with regard to issues of poor academic progress and for further enhancement programmes for children as well as in organisations to understand the client and his problems better from family and work perspective. Taking into account theoretical, methodological and instrumental facets of assessment, it details assessment that covers individual differences, development and social context. It analyses the epistemological background of the psychological theories and methods across time, such as which test theory and methods of data analysis dominate and why. It argues that assessment needs to consider the full knowledge base of psychology and it is not limited to testing or leaning heavily on psychometrics or following a specific model for prediction, explanation and decision.
