This book is the outcome of the seminar sponsored by the UGC where many papers had been presented out of which 23 papers have been selected for this volume. Topics on various dimension covered the discussion, which have been broadly categorized into four parts. Article 1 to 8 in the Content deal with the gender bias; 9 to 15 examines the intricate issues relating to gender violence and human rights; 16 to 20 focuses light on economic participation of women and development and lastly 21 to 23 makes an assessment of women vis-a-vis education. The study is of paramount importance in understanding and formulating policy relating to gender issues and human development. It is hoped that the work would be appreciated by researchers of social science, women studies, developmental studies and general readers interested in the problem.
