The work is on Rabindranath Tagore’s reception and influence on the North-east. It takes up the impact of the writings and thoughts of Tagore on the writers, artists and theatre personalities in different languages in the north-east region of India. With a survey of the translations of Tagore’s works in various languages of the north-east, it assesses the impact of Rabindra culture on Assamese poetry and Tagore’s influence on the artists of Assam, Manipuri literature, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh in particular. It takes up in particular the translation of the Geetanjali in Nepali and the introduction of Manipuri nritya into Santiniketan.
