This study is an attempt at explaining the social structure of India with reference to untouchability. It also explains the involvement of the government in this social problem by way of legislation and interpretation as well as its implementation. Recent constitutional amendments regarding untouchability have also been taken into account. The author has treated the facts, objectively. The work-aimes at the enlightenment of the readers regarding the spirit of laws and their use and misuse and their politicization. It also, attempts, modestly, to show, how stop the malpractices of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955. It must serve as a guide to the whole society with regard to social, political and economic harmony.
