Society in India is divided on the basis of caste. No religion an India has escaped contamination by this diabolical and ruinous system. Initially the Hindus were divided into four ‘Varnas’ with Brahmins, the priestly caste, occupying the highest position and the Shudra sitting on the lowest rung of the ladder. Hindu apologists of caste say that it was division of labour. According to Dr. Ambedkar it was not division of labour, but it was in fact the division of the labourers. Outside the ‘Varnas’ namely the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and the Shudras, there were the ‘A-Varnas’, lowly, despised, Untouchable.
