The book is a maiden attempt to focus the Upanisadic challenge to science. The author highlights the significance of Upanisadic philosophy for the modern man and lays special stress on the crisis of values which the prodigious growth of science and technology has brought about in the recent part. With solid arguments, the author shows the failure of science in the first chapter. In subsequent chapters, the writer goes on to explain the nature and destiny of the human individual, man’s relation to the Supreme reality and the Universe, the value and aim of human life, and the means leading to the desired goal. In the last chapter, he rebuts all the charges leveled against the Upanisads, well-answering. Above all, the author has brought his outstanding power of independent thinking and critical insight coupled with philosophical acumen to bear upon his assessment of the enduring achievements of the upanisadic sages who were the living embodiments of philosophy in India. The book must needs leave an indelible imprint upon the minds of those in India and abroad who care for fresh and free thinking. The book is sure to be of profound interest to all those who relish Indian Philosophy and seek inspiration from the sublime thoughts of the hoary savants of the Upanisads which deliver the message of love, strength, faith, wisdom and vision.
