Upasana is the ultimate path of sadhana, which leads the aspirant directly into the proximity of the Divine. The teachings contained in this book were expounded by two contemporary masters of the yoga tradition: Swami Sivananda Saraswati and his disciple Swami Satyananda Saraswati. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati
Swami Sivananda was a towering spiritual force in the yogic renaissance which developed in India in the first half of the twentieth century. After serving as a doctor in Malaya, he returned to India to pursue his spiritual aspirations, and in 1924 was initiated into Dashnami sannyasa in Rishikesh. He founded the Divine Life Society, toured India extensively, wrote hundreds of books and inspired thousands around the world to practise yoga and lead a divine life. Swami Sivananda's eightfold path of yoga - serve, love, give, purify, do good, be good, meditate, realize - expresses his philosophy of service to humanity and continues to guide the work of the Bihar School of Yoga.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Swami Satyananda Saraswati
Swami Stayananda was born at Almora, Uttar Pradesh, in 1923. in 1943 he met Swami Sivananda in Rishikesh, where he lived as a sannyasin for the next 12 years. Swami Satyananda founded the International Yoga Fellowship in 1956 and the Bihar School of Yoga in 1963. Over the next 20 years he toured internationally and authored over 80 books, in 1984 he founded Sivananda Math, a charitable institution for aiding rural development, and the Yoga Research Foundation in 1980 he adopted kshetra sannyasa and settled in Rikhia, Jharkhand, where he now lives as a paramahamsa sannyasin.
