V.K.R.V. Rao and B.R. Shenoy are outstanding names amongst the Indian economists of the second half of the 20 century. But they held views which were diametrically opposed to each other. The contrast between their ideas came into sharp focus at the time of the formulation of the second Five Year Plan and continued for more than a decade. The present book V.K.R.V. Rao and B.R. Shenoy : Economic Ideas in Contrast, deals with the economic ideas of both these scholars. It consists of papers selected from the papers submitted originally by the authors for presentation at 80 and 81 annual conferences of the Indian economic association held in December 1997 and 1998 at Hyderabad and Bangalore respectively. The book consists of 21 papers, 11 in Part I and 10 in Part II. In addition, there is a comprehensive introductory chapter by the editor of the volume. Papers dealing with ideas of Rao are presented in Part I and those dealing with Shenoy in Part II.
