Vedanta, the end and import of the Vedas, has innumerable aspects, both philosophical and religious. Swami Vivekananda used this comprehensive term to define the essence of his message. For this reason, and also because of the increasing interest in the subject, the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission sponsored and International seminar entitled Vedanta: Concepts and Application to observe the Centenary of the founding of the Ramakrishna Mission on 1 May, 1897. The present volume, a collection of these twenty-one papers in addition to the prefatory addresses by Swamis Lokeswaranandaji, Atmasthanandaji and Smaranannandadji, is dedicated tot eh memory of Swami Lokeswaranandaji Maharaj, the former Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, who passed away on 31 December, 1998. His active support and encouragement were responsible for the planning and success of the Vedanta Seminar.
