The Prime objective of the book is to create and broaden the understanding of the impact of blindness on personality dynamics. The book is based on research and investigations which highlights the differences and similarities between the blind and the sighted adolescents with respect to adjustment in the family, social adjustments and emotional stability and the methods they employ in making their adjustments. In this book an attempt has been made to pinpoint the eiteology and the factors responsible for adjustment problems in general as well as on account of visual disability. In this book Dr. N.K. Rai has taken special care to include latest national and international studies on various aspects of blindness. The distinguish features of this book in its present edition are the inclusion of discussion highlighting the myths prevailing about the disabled in general and the visually challenged in particular. This book is one of the pioneering attempts of its nature based on empirical research in India. The book concludes with the author’s suggestions for future research, teachers, parents and policy makers.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR N.K. Rai
Dr. N.K. Rai (b. 1950), is an eminent behavioural scientist, special educator, trainer and counselor. Dr. Rai obtained his masters degree in Psychology and Sociology from The University of Delhi and Meerut respectively. He did his D.Phil from Garhwal University and PG-HRM from IGNOU. He also completed his CTD from the University of Manchester, U.K. Presently Dr. Rai is working as Joint Director in the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences, Delhi. Formerly he was head of psychology department in the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Dehradun, Joint Director and Head of Behavioural Training Wing at the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management, New Delhi, Head and Joint Director Examination Reforms in the Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi. He is visiting faculty to large number of organization and training institutes including Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration, Mussorie. He is associated with number of professional bodies including Indian Institute of Public Administration and Special Education. He also published several articles and research papers in leading Journals and Books. HE has actively participated in large number of conferences and seminars. Dr. Rai was keynote speaker in third National Conference on – Dehmanised Human in Business-organised by Gurukul University, Haridwar in 2004.
