The research study was conducted during the year 2000-2001 and collected data about the attitudes of students, teachers, instructors and administrators about different aspects of vocationalisation of education so as to get a better picture of the situation and to make recommendations for the improvement of vocational education. The present study is, therefore, an ardent effort in this direction. Some of the major findings of the study are as follows: The curriculum has not been revised in accordance with the changing times. The syllabus in the vocational education courses is heavy. There is a dearth of trained teachers in vocational education institutions. Latest equipment is not available in vocational education institutions. Suitable teaching aids are not available to the teachers of vocational education. It is desirable to strengthen a parallel vocational education stream instead of vocationalising general education. There is no separate apprentice board for vocational educational students to get their names registered. There are no promotional opportunities for teachers working in vocational educational education institutions. There is no coordination between vocational institutions and industries. Majority of the heads of the institutions have no technical qualifications. It is hoped that the findings of the study provide an insight in to the problems of vocational educational institutions to the planners, administrators as well as academicians.
